Holy Smokes Leibovitz!

so, in the august issue of the magazine New York they featured an article on Annie Leibovitz, so naturally i picked up the issue interested in what was happening. Annie happens to be one of my favorite photographers, i love her style, her outcomes, her iconic messages, and her drive to push further and further on issues and statements. However reading this article and the author going into great detail on her life and how she carriers herself as a photographer i was shocked. but in a learning experience kind of way. The whole article is on the crash of well herself. I learned that although you may be great at what you do and love what you do and can make lots of money doing what you do, all this can just be a way to make your name and your statement in the world. That living up to that lifestyle might not always get you through to the end. Granted the woman is an amazing photographer, but from what i understand the article claimed that she wasn't the best professional for any job. Everyone loves for the person that an individual hires to have some kind of perfectionism, but not to the extent Annie has. I feel bad for her, but at the same time i just wanna be like "girl what did you do?! Why didn't you listen?!" I think she will forever take amazing photographs and forever do what she loves, but her financial situation has blown it's lid wayyy to far i hope she figures something out before the world loses her as an artist who continuously gives people great images to look at.

  1. i'm in shock over this. i have always admired hers and richard avedon's work. she's brilliant. it just makes me so sad that she could be going bankrupt... and that she pawned the rights to her work?! insane!!

  2. Wow! This article was really eye opening. I've always loved her portraits - they are really beautiful. I had no idea the lenghts she would go to get the shot she wanted! Some of it sounds a little crazy - OCD maybe? I hope she can work out all of her financial mess without giving up all the rights to her work - that's just tragic. Thanks for posting this article.
